Championing famous British author Thomas Hardy, we have launched a holiday package ideal for literary aficionados and Hardy fans. While staying in Hardy’s beautiful ‘Vale of Great Dairies’ guests will truly discover Thomas Hardy’s ‘Wessex’ and immerse themselves in the scenery and architecture that influenced some of his most loved works including Far From the Madding Crowd, The Mayor of Casterbridge and Tess of the d’Urbervilles as well as his collection of poems. Key highlights of the trip will include Woodsford Castle, the largest thatched castle in the UK and scene of his poem A Sound in the Night, the church where Tess marries Angel Clare, the thatched cottage where Hardy was born that features in one of his first novels Under the Greenwood Tree, Bere Regis (aka Kingsbere) where the D’Urberville tombs are located and, Dorchester, the real life Casterbridge and a place strongly associated with Hardy’s life and writings. After a fascinating day out guests can return to Silverlake to stay at their own ‘Wessex cottage’, amble through the lakes and heathlands and relax in the Hurricane Spa with its year-round heated outdoor pool and treatment rooms where spa therapists use luxury French brand Caudalie.

Stay at Silverlake for two nights from £810 or three nights from £870 for the Heart of Hardy’s Wessex short break. The stay will be in a self-catering two-bedroom cottage and will include a full day Thomas Hardy tour including a pub lunch. Half day Thomas Hardy tours are also available.
