Platinum Jubilee: BBC Big Band on the Beach

When? 05 June 2022
Where? Lyme Regis

  • Platinum Jubilee: BBC Big Band on the Beach

Over the weekend of 2 to 5 June, Lyme Regis will join the nation in marking the historic occasion, with a big finale event on Sunday 5 June. The events are being hosted by Lyme Regis Town Council, in partnership with Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Committee, Jazz Jurassica and the Marine Theatre.

Join us for a spectacular open-air performance by the BBC Big Band on Lyme Regis beach on Sunday 5 June. As the sun sets, take your seat on the beach or in the seafront gardens to watch the performance on the main stage, which starts at 7.30pm.

The orchestra comprises of 18 or more musicians, including a full brass section and vocalists, in full black tie, playing a wide repertoire of genres, from rat pack, to swing and Last Night at the Proms.

There will of course be some rousing patriotic songs to celebrate the occasion, including the National Anthem to close the evening. Expect to hear songs to get you dancing, tunes with a British theme, some well-known film themes, traditional wartime favourites, popular swing and big band numbers and plenty more besides.

The BBC Big Band will entertain for two hours, so expect a jam-packed evening of entertainment to mark The Queen's 70 years of service to the country and Commonwealth.

Parking will be limited in Lyme Regis so please arrive early to avoid disappointment and use public transport or car share where possible.
