Shakespeare at Beaulieu
When? 11 Jul 2019 to 12 Jul 2019
Where? Beaulieu - New Forest
The University of Durham’s Castle Theatre Company presents one of Shakespeare’s lesser known, but most charming comedies; ‘Love's Labour's Lost’ on Thursday 11 & Friday 12 July.
This hilarious comedy explores the classic trope of the forbidden fruit being the sweetest, as men and women meet and fall in love, despite their better judgement. Shakespeare at Beaulieu is the perfect entertainment for a sunny July evening.
King Ferdinand of Navarre and his friends vow to devote themselves to scholarly learning for three years. They forswear women for this period in order to keep their minds solely focused on learning. Unfortunately for them, they have forgotten that the Princess of France and her ladies are scheduled to visit on diplomatic business - when boys meet girls, romantic chaos ensues as their vows are tested.
The performance will begin at 7pm. Entrance to the Abbey will be from 6pm and the audience are invited to picnic before and throughout the performance. You're welcome to bring rugs or picnic chairs. Arrive early to grab the best spots!
In the event of bad weather, the performance will go ahead inside the Abbey's Domus.
