Dorset’s best kept secret, the perfect day out!
Built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594 and home of the Digby family since 1617, visitors can walk through over 400 years of history and discover the ‘Great Stories’ of Sherborne Castle. History will come alive. See magnificent state rooms and nationally important collections of art, porcelain, furniture, and family curios.
Discover acres of “Capability Brown” landscaped gardens surrounding a 50-acre lake. Take a garden audio tour and explore features including a cascade, folly, fossil house and boat house pier. Colour is provided in magnificent herbaceous borders. This is a true plantsman’s garden and home to many unusual cultivars and champion trees. A children’s quiz and garden trail is available and dogs are welcome on short leads.
Enjoy a delicious light lunch or a glass of their very own Sherborne Castle wine in the tearoom; then browse in the gift shop, which sells local and estate-made produce including antler dog chews, artisan pottery and local honey.
The Castle is open 23rd July to 31st August every day from 12pm to 4pm, last entry 3pm, and open Friday, Saturday and Sunday first 3 weekends in September (3,4,5) (10,11,12) (17,18,19) only.
