Army Girls
When? 14 November 2021
Where? Poole
Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of WWII Conscription for Women Tessa Dunlop, broadcaster and author of Army Girls, is joined by original ‘Gunner Girl’ Grace Taylor. Performing living history live on stage, together Tessa and Grace will tell the extraordinary story of Britain’s wartime female army and bring to life a pivotal moment in our island’s history.
Tessa will provide a unique insight into the all-female Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) and celebrate the extraordinary life story of 97-year-old former ATS ack-ack girl, Grace Taylor. One of the first women to swap her civvies for battledress and a steel hat, Grace braved the Luftwaffe bombers to defend and fight back for Britain between 1941-45.
Join Tessa and Grace for a poignant and joy-filled afternoon, celebrating the ATS, an army of women in the Second World War that included Her Majesty the Queen and Winston Churchill’s youngest daughter, Mary.
Armistice Sunday, 3pm, 14 November at Lighthouse, Poole.
