Bridport's Historic Street Market 

One of our favourite weekend treats is a visit to the fabulous Bridport Market. Running year-round every Wednesday and Saturday, it's one of Dorset's longest-standing street markets, with stalls set up across three streets in the town centre. Saturday is by far the busier of the two, drawing locals and visitors alike, while Wednesday is a great option if you prefer a more leisurely wander through the stalls.

Stalls offer a wonderful mix of everything and anything. There's furniture, antiques and collectables for treasure-hunters, vintage fashion and hand-made goods for anyone after something unique, and a proper feast for foodies with organic fruit and vegetables, local fish, cheese and those famous chocolate brownies. Throw in vinyl records, local prints, macramé, rugs, walking sticks and even socks, and you'll understand why we could go on!

Bridport Market Days

The market takes place on Wednesday and Saturday with stalls in three streets; and on the last Sunday of the month (March – October) the Art & Vintage Quarter at St Michael's Trading Estate hosts The Bridport Vintage Market. Expect the unexpected, and delve into the past!

Bridport is a town with few empty shops: you'll find some national chains such as Fat Face, Mountain Warehouse, Boots, The Works etc, and these are complemented by many independent stores that take pride in offering customers something a bit different. Womenswear, men's outfitters, book shops and toys can all be found here.

Bridport Bakery is worth travelling for alone, thanks to its amazing focaccia. And how many small towns do you know that can boast three independent butchers? Bridport can! Atlas Bike Shop has a brilliant choice of bikes and excellent service; we only went in for a look and are now planning our first ebike purchase! For gifts, Cilla and Camilla is a lovely place to browse, and no visit would be complete without a stop at Snooks the Hat Shop.

Maybe you’ll want coffee – if so, follow the locals and head to Soulshine, The Green Yard, or Gelateria Beppino – leave some almond biscuits for us please! Be sure to seek out Dorshi for incredible dumplings; for lunch time tipples - the Tiger Inn or the multi award-winning The Woodman (be warned - you won't want to leave either), or Brassica Forna for some delicious bites to go.

Go for breakfast, and hey, why not stay for lunch as the foodie scene is incredible. Don’t overlook this remarkable town as it offers so much; see you there!
