Dorset in Full Colour

It’s that time of year again when nature provides us with that colourful spectacle that never ceases to delight and amaze. As the leaves on the trees take on their yellow, gold, red and bronze hues it’s time to get out in a woodland or garden near you and enjoy the display up close.
We’ve picked out some great places to visit where you can enjoy the splendour of autumn before the winter sets in and spoils the show!
On 25th and 26th October, Sherborne Castle hosts its annual Autumn Colours Weekend when visitors can take a leisurely stroll through acres of impressive lakeside gardens and marvel at the spectacular colours all around. This natural and tranquil location is fabulous for walking and for watching a varity of wildlife on the lake. However, if you can’t fit in a visit on those dates, all of October will be fabulous for seeing the magnificent displays of colour.
Open until 9th November is the 27-acre garden of Minterne House which is situated between Dorchester and Sherborne. With over 200 Acers, Minterne Gardens is awash with spectacular autumn hues guaranteed to lift your spirits. Stroll through this tranquil garden, breathe air turning crisp and stop on your way out (or in!) for a hot chocolate on the terrace.
Visit the Japenese Garden at Kingston Lacy (National Trust). Follow the route through the stunning autumnal acer trees bursting into golds, coppers and crimson. Collect your postcard from the Japanese cabinet at reception. As you enjoy the surroundings of the garden, collect and make your own keepsake postcard with a series of stamps that layer up to create a seasonal scene from the garden.
