Sutton Poyntz is a picture -postcard village near Weymouth. With its unique beauty and hidden treasures of old houses and cottages plus a duck pond opposite the pub, it is surely a place to visit.
Already well known for its bi-annual Victorian Street Fayre, this year the village is organising an Open Garden Weekend on June 27 and 28 from 12.00 until 5.00pm and we hope we can tempt you to come and enjoy this event.
Visitors will not only be able to see 17 individual gardens, some with wonderful views of the famous White Horse on Osmington Hill, but also one whole street where the residents will welcome everyone to view all their front gardens.
There will be other events taking place: the local Art group, who have a reputation for a very high standard of work, will be holding an Art Exhibition and these exhibits will be available to purchase; there will be a Children’s Competition where they look for the hidden butterfly in each garden; the Mission Hall will have a variety of interesting stalls from craft, plants and tombola.
The Orchard behind the Mission Hall will be a delightful area for refreshments. Here visitors will be able to sample a delicious range of home made sandwiches, cakes and pastries, all very reasonably priced.
The proceeds from this event will go to Cancer Research UK and Water Aid. The Victorian pumping station and Water Aid offices are within the village and many residents are involved in raising money for third world countries without fresh clean water.
Entry will be by programme available in advance from local venues and on the day in the Mission Hall, £5 per adult or £8 for both days. Parking will be free.
