Riley's Red Racers
When? 24 September 2017
Where? Weymouth
A Community event to remember Riley Blaker, 12pm - 4pm on 24th September.
Riley's Red Racers will consist of a sponsored scoot along Weymouth Seafront followed by a family fun afternoon at Weymouth Pavilion.
Riley Blaker was only four when diagnosed with DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) in Sept 2015. DIPG is a malignant brain tumour, primarily diagnosed in children aged 5-9, and is terminal from outset. Riley lost his battle in June 2016.
We would like to hold this event in recognition of the amazing response to Riley's diagnosis and care given by the community which ensured as a family we were able to make precious memories. He was also able to undergo pioneering treatment in the hope of buying more time thanks to a phenomenal response to a fundraising appeal. Although this did not work for Riley, it allowed us to live with hope throughout his last months for which we are immeasurably grateful.
Along with raising awareness of DIPG, the aim is to fundraise for two charities. Abbie's Army are a parent-led charity raising funds for DIPG research after the loss of their daughter, Abbie, in 2011. The Lexi May Trust is a Dorset charity set up to fund days out for children and their families when diagnosed with terminal or life limiting illness. Founded by Carly and Michael Hopkin in 2016 after the loss of their 8 year old daughter Lexi to DIPG.
Please come along and join us in remembering Riley and honouring his memory by fundraising for these amazing charities.
