  • A Christmas Carol

Weymouth’s number one heritage attraction, Nothe Fort, is hosting an authentic and unique theatre production from AsOne Theatre, with the retelling of the classic ‘A Christmas Carol’. Taking place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December, this promises to be a unique chance to be immerses in a classic Victorian setting, listening to a classic Christmas tale.

The Nothe Fort presents AsOne theatre company in a new whirlwind version of A Christmas Carol inspired by Charles Dickens’ original, much loved, ghost story. This adaptation is by AsOne’s Artistic Director, Jane McKell. The miser Scrooge learns the hard way what the true spirit of Christmas is.
Commissioned by the Nothe Fort this Christmas, Fantastic For Families, award winning, AsOne theatre company have produced this original, storytelling version of A Christmas Carol at the Nothe Fort on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December, with just four 20-minute slots a day, online booking is essential the groups so AsOne can keep small and each performance intimate and participatory.
Mary-Anne Edwards, Nothe Fort’s General Manager said “Nothe Fort is really excited to be working with award winning, local drama group who will bring our Victorian Gundeck to life. They are using the Fort as a theatre set to create an authentic, magical atmosphere for A Christmas Carol.”
Jane McKell said: “The Nothe Fort is a very special museum. All its nooks and crannies such fun to explore. The Gun Deck makes an evocative, immersive performance space. The Nothe Fort Trust challenged AsOne to produce a family friendly, piece of storytelling with two actors for the Christmas season. Our A Christmas Carol short is in verse, engaging our audience to participate as you do in pantomime. The narrator, Mrs Cratchit will welcome you, then encourage the audience to sing, boo, hiss, cheer, or listen quietly (not to upset the ghosts!) in true melodramatic style. We are encouraging children to make a simple handmade, card-lantern with LED candle to bring along to light their way; there are many examples on YouTube, and AsOne theatre have lanterns for the extended family. This spooky story has a feel-good message at heart of love, family, good will, and giving at Christmas. A two hander, with dramatised scenes mixed with narration has costume, projection, and a soundscape to evoke a much-loved Victorian story.”
So, join Mrs Cratchit, your narrator, who will introduce you to Scrooge in his lamp-lit bedroom, at the Nothe Fort in the Gun Deck and enjoy AsOne theatre company’s A Christmas Carol at the Nothe Fort on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December. Book online via nothefort.org.uk/whats-on
