Charity Gardening Evening
When? 21 March 2019
Where? Bridport
We've got a great evening coming up for all you experienced - and aspiring gardeners - a chance to ask some of Dorset's leading horticultural experts anything you like (about gardening!!)
Our panel consists of award winners and Chelsea exhibitors so not much they won't know to help you in your own gardening efforts.
Join us at Ivy House on Thursday 21st March at 6.30 pm.
Needing no introduction, our Chairman for the evening and keeping everything in order, will be our very own Clive Groves.
Joining us also the are three leading experts that make up our panel:-
David James from Beaminster-based Marshall James who has worked alongside many of the well-known designers such as Dan Pearson, Penelope Hobhouse, Tom Stuart-Smith, Georgia Langton, Nick Williams-Ellis. The Company has competed twice at Chelsea, both times with Nick Williams-Ellis. Their Jurassic Coastal Garden won a Silver medal and the Edible Playground Garden won a Gold Medal as well as the best Courtyard Garden in show.
Nigel Hewish, Head Gardener at Kingston Maurward who has been at Kingston Maurward since the early 1990s and has overseen the gradual restoration of the vision of the last private owners, Sir Cecil and Lady Hanbury, for the 35 acres of formal gardens that were originally laid out in the 18th century in the style of Capability Brown. The college holds National Collections of penstemons and salvias.
Stephen Griffith, Curator at Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens - actually his correct title is heritage garden curator and botanising traveller! Stephen, who has overseen Abbotsbury Gardens for 27 years, has scoured the world looking for new plants: Chile, Borneo, Myanmar, South Africa and even Saudi Arabia. As such, he has perfected this 30-acre, subtropical paradise, which dates back to 1765.
How to ask the experts your question.
Pick up a flyer in the garden centre by the tills and enter your own question for the night.
